The formerly Hailing County has given a number of intellectuals to China and in modern times has been known for its silk industry, which is now called Hai'an. Hai'an is located in Middle Jiangsu Province, with Yellow Sea to its east, the Yangtze River to the south, while Nanjing and Yangzhou lies to its west and Yancheng and Funing to its north. It is on this rich and broad land that the largest silk and cotton fabrics producer is situated?anamely, Jiangsu Hengyuan Silk Group Co., Ltd., which is now experiencing fast development.
Established in as early as June 1970, Hengyuan Silk has developed from a small mill of only 28 workers and an investment of mere RMB6000, to a group company which now boasts of RMB200 million of assets and RMB 1 billion of annual sales. Furthermore, the group has included into its business range production of pure silk fabrics, cotton yarn-dyed and piece-dyed fabrics, denim, bleaching and dyeing of silk fabrics as well as import and export.
Nearly 3000 people are currently under employment in the group, which is constituted by ten manufacturing mills and trading companies. Equipment include 800 sets of weaving looms for silk fabrics (inclusive of 100 rapier looms), 80 sets (of totally planned capacity of 160 sets) of Japan-made new air-jet looms, 50 sets of China-made air-jet looms, 160 sets of rapier looms, one production line of silk threads for making carpet and knitwear with annual output of 100 tons, one bleaching and dyeing mill capable of 5 million meters of silk fabrics every year, one import and export company with annual sales of USD15 million. In addition, offices have been set up in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Europe.
The group has been awarded AAA Creditable Enterprise and Contract-abiding and Credit Enterprise for 5 years in series. In 2001, the group successfully passed the certification for ISO9002. Its bleached silk fabric and thread under the brand of Siyi have been exported to more than 50 countries
